How To Make Money In Pokemon Fire Red

If there was a way to get an unlimited amount of cash, you'd want to know, wouldn't you? Well, there may not be a magic money tree in real life, but there sure is a magic golden Nugget mine in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen. This very minor glitch won't risk any damage to your game, and it will guarantee you near-infinite money.

It's more of an oversight than a glitch, but a rose by any other name is still a rose. Now, you may be wondering why you even need infinite money in a Pokemon game — they're all quite easy, and trainer battles give you more than enough to buy all the potions and Pokeballs you need. Well, money can be used to buy coins at the game corner in Celadon city, and those coins can be used to buy Pokemon and powerful TMs.

How To Get Unlimited Money

So, this glitch technically loses you money, but don't worry, you'll be getting Nuggets worth 5,000 Pokedollars each time you do this.

The Set-Up

All you need to do is not beat the Team Rocket grunt at the end of the Nugget Bridge just north of Cerulean City. Beat all the trainers on the bridge, but leave him be.

Next, pop a weak Pokemon in your party you don't mind fainting a lot — fainting makes a Pokemon like you less, which makes Return weaker but Frustration stronger, so don't do this to any Pokemon you want to love you or that requires maximum friendship to evolve.

Also, spend all the money you have left on Pokeballs, potions, whatever you need, really. You're going to be whiting out a lot, and even though you'll be making infinite money, it's always nice to have infinity plus change.

The Con

Now that you've got a weak Pokemon in your party and you've spent all your dosh, head up Nugget Bridge and talk to the shady man at the top. He'll congratulate you with a Nugget worth 5,000 Pokedollars before trying to convince you to join the nefarious Team Rocket. Your silence is answer enough, and he responds to your quiet indignation with violence, instigating a battle.

Just lose the battle.

Seriously, lose the battle on purpose. Take a Caterpie and just use String Shot over and over again until it gets knocked out. It doesn't matter how you lose, just make sure you do lose.

Once you get sent to the Pokemon Centre to heal up, march right on up that bridge and face that mean ol' grunt again. He'll cheerily congratulate you as if nothing has happened and give you another Nugget to commemorate your victory over the Nugget bridge. Fight again, lose again, get another Nugget, repeat.

The Spoils

This is a nice little oversight left in by Game Freak. You can collect as many of these Nuggets as you like and then sell them for 5,000 Pokedollars a pop in PokeMarts. With 99 Nuggets you'll have 495,000 Pokedollars, which is more than enough to breeze through the entire game. Farm some more if you want to buy all the TMs and Pokemon available at the Celadon Game Corner without having to resort to those annoying slot machines.
